LIFE'S NOT FAIR: TRUE OR FALSE?
Every Monday morning we gather as a staff for a time of prayer and devotion before we begin our week. One week Susan, our Family Services Director, began with the above question. We spent the next few minutes pondering the unfairness of it all.
Sitting around the table, typically used for sorting donations, we have 6 women in all different stages of life: some facing scary medical diagnoses, some dealing with physical and emotional pain, others caring for aging parents, another trusting & waiting through infertility, and another serves family members with fragile medical needs. Without a doubt, The Lord brought us each to this table, to have community together, to grow as disciples together, and to serve His Kids together. We remind each other of God’s goodness, support each other in the most practical ways, and encourage one another to preserve even when life doesn’t seem fair. There are two very powerful results of our time on Monday mornings:
COMFORT & JOY
2 Corinthians 3:2-4 says “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God,”
As we serve children in foster care, we strive to love using the same model Jesus did. He often began by meeting practical needs with compassion, but He never missed an opportunity to offer spiritual wisdom, comfort emotional needs, or address social concerns. The children we serve face unimaginable traumas. Yes, they need clothing, toiletries, and essential items, but they truly need a relationship with the God of all comfort. He will provide the strength and energy to overcome trauma.
THESE ARE HIS KIDS!
This Christmas season, would you take a few minutes to ponder the unfairness of life, especially for children in foster care? Would you set aside the busyness of parties and preparations to commit time in prayer for His Kids? Would you consider how the Lord has brought you comfort and your opportunity to comfort others? Over 430 children have visited our Resource Center this year receiving clothing and physical items, representing 195 foster families that need support and encouragement to persevere.
