Blessing His Kids: Mary's Story

Matthew 7:7-8 Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.  For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

God is faithful!!!  A few years ago, I began to pray “Lord, break my heart for what breaks Yours.  Open my eyes to the needs around me.  Show me what I can do to make a difference”.  He is so faithful in answering our prayers when we ask for wisdom and discernment.

Many years ago, my father and his brother were foster children who were eventually adopted by my grandparents.  My father never shared very much about his experience in foster care and I know it was traumatic.  I have always had a heart for foster children, yet I had not discovered an avenue to provide support.   Then, I discovered PS I Love You and felt the tug at my heart to become a monthly financial supporter.

A few months ago, the company where I am employed, Mobile Communications America announced their annual MCA Day Grant awards.  Each year, MCA celebrates their birthday by donating to non-profit organizations.  This year, MCA celebrated 11 years in business and donated $11,000 in grants to 11 well-deserving non-profit organizations.  When I received the announcement, I immediately thought of PSILY and nominated the organization.  I was thrilled to learn the grant was awarded to PSILY.

God blesses us so that we can be a blessing.  My heart breaks for these kids and I love the vision P S I Love You has for foster children and families.  God gave Kay Kirby a vision 22 years ago and through her obedience, PS I Love You has become a pillar in our community that hundreds of foster families rely on for support.   There is no better investment than supporting our most vulnerable citizens in our community, our foster children.

On Wednesday, December 11th, we had the incredible privilege of hosting leadership from Mobile Communications America: Vince Foody, CEO, and Kari Dixon, CFO along with Mary Smith for a tour of the Resource Center as well as discussing our upcoming Christmas Village.  The generous grant provides for much of our Christmas Village expenses.

One part of this experience is our special family day at PS I Love You. It’s not just about providing a holiday fun event – it’s about addressing a critical human need for belonging, comfort, joy, and emotional support, particularly for children who have experienced significant trauma and instability.  This event is designed to create a heartwarming, memorable experience for children in foster care, allowing them to learn about the true meaning of Christmas.

Another important aspect of “the village” is recognizing the hardworking caseworkers at the Department of Social Services. Their job can be challenging as they work with both foster children and biological families.  Providing encouragement for their work and sharing a meal during the Christmas season with them is a win for foster care!

Mobile Communications America is providing the greatest gift of all to foster children this Christmas, the gift of joy and love during the most difficult time in their lives.

All children pictured above are volunteers, siblings, or adopted children no longer in foster care, but these smiles represent the many faces we can not show as we protect the privacy of all children in foster care. 160 children attended the Christmas Village event held on Saturday, Dec 14th.
